Wanna be in the movies?

Sainato says local residents have chance this weekend to be part of movie filming

PITTSBURGH, May 26 – State Rep. Chris Sainato said local residents have the opportunity to be extras in the movie "Warrior," a major motion picture starring Nick Nolte that is being filmed in Pittsburgh.

The movie, which is scheduled for release in 2010, is about the increasingly popular sport of mixed martial arts, or MMA. A scene for the movie will be shot this Saturday, May 30 at the Petersen Events Center on the campus of the University of Pittsburgh, and Sainato said the producers are looking for thousands of local extras.

"This is a great chance for people to come out, have a good time and maybe end up on the big screen," said Sainato, who is a subcommittee chairman on the House Tourism and Recreational Development Committee. "Even better, for every resident that attends and participates in the shoot, the producers are going to donate money to the Pittsburgh Fallen Heroes Fund."

Besides the donation to the Fallen Heroes Fund, Sainato said the Pittsburgh filming of "Warrior" also is providing job opportunities for local craftsmen and vendors and pumping significant dollars into the local economy.

"Pittsburgh has a long tradition as a location for Hollywood movies, as does Pennsylvania in general," Sainato said. "We want to help keep that tradition alive by bringing more movie productions – and the jobs and economic benefits that come with them – here to Pittsburgh and other regions in Pennsylvania."

Sainato said residents can participate in the "Warrior" filming this Saturday by obtaining a free ticket to the event at his constituent service office, or by calling toll free 1-866-204-0621. Children must be accompanied by an adult at least 18 or older, and residents will need to sign a filming release in order to participate.

Sainato said the filming, which will last from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., will also feature a raffle where participants can win prizes such as iPods, flat screen TVs and a Ford Ranger.
