Sainato works to keep Lawrence County's fifth-class county status

HARRISBURG, June 29 – State Rep. Chris Sainato, D-Lawrence/Beaver, said legislation he supports, which would preserve Lawrence County's fifth-class status, has passed the state House and awaits action in the state Senate.

Sainato is a co-sponsor of the legislation (H.B. 1549) that would establish new population thresholds for classification as a fifth-class county from 95,000 to 90,000 people. If this was not changed, Lawrence County would have been reclassified as a sixth-class county.

"This change in the law was needed to help our local governments continue to receive the state and federal funding they need," Sainato said.

Sainato represents constituents of the 9th Legislative District.
