Mahoning Township to receive more than $9 million for sewer project
HARRISBURG, July 15 – State Rep. Chris Sainato, D-Beaver/Lawrence, announced that Mahoning Township has received a grant for more than $1 million and a loan for more than $8.3 million for its sewer project.
The project includes the construction of a wastewater treatment facility, 108,500 feet of collection and sewer accessories and six lift stations. The project will serve 550 residential households in Mahoning Township and is a start-up system with no existing user fees.
"The funding from the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority helps Mahoning Township improve its station and construct new facilities to address public health and safety concerns," Sainato said.
The total cost of the Mahoning Township Sewer Project is $22.7 million. The remaining $13 million will be obtained through other sources, Sainato said.
An independent agency of the Commonwealth, Pennvest funds sewer, storm water and drinking water projects statewide through federal grants and loans to improve the environment and public health. Projects funded by Pennvest also improve opportunities for economic growth and create jobs for Pennsylvania's workers.
