Sainato announces $10,000 grant for Lawrence Co. Historical Society
HARRISBURG, Aug. 7 – State Rep. Chris Sainato, D-Beaver/Lawrence, announced that the Lawrence County Historical Society in New Castle has been awarded a $10,000 grant from the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission.
"This funding supports a variety of projects to preserve the heritage of Pennsylvania," Sainato said. "Organizations like the county historical society are a great way for the community to learn about the history of our area and the state." The grant will be used for general operating support of the historical society. The Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission is responsible for assisting nonprofit organizations and local organizations with the collection, conservation and interpretation of Pennsylvania's historic heritage. To encourage and support the preservation and public access to this heritage, PHMC offers a variety of grant programs to assist organization in these efforts.
For the fiscal year 2008-09, the commission has awarded 117 grants totaling $2.2 million.
