Gibbons legislation celebrates 100 years of the U.S. Army Reserve
HARRISBURG, April 7 – State Rep. Jaret Gibbons, D-Lawrence/Beaver/Butler, today announced the adoption of his legislation, H.R. 698, to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the United States Army Reserve on April 23, 2008, as well as honor the U.S. Army Reserve’s commitment, dedication and service by its warrior citizens of the United States of America.
"This resolution seeks to commemorate the historic contributions of United States Army Reserve veterans as well as its current soldiers who are active in Afghanistan and Iraq," Gibbons said.
Since its conception, the citizen soldiers of the U.S. Army Reserve have assisted our enlisted soldiers on several battlefronts, including both World Wars, Korea, Vietnam, Bosnia and the Persian Gulf. Currently, reservists are supporting the efforts of Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom.
The U.S. Army Reserve operated during its first century of service in support of actively enrolled soldiers. However, the global war on terror has increased the demand of our nation’s soldiers. As a result, today’s U.S. Army Reserve is a fully operational military force. Furthermore, Gibbons said the U.S. Army Reserve soldier serves a crucial role and is an integral part of the world’s best army.
