Gibbons announces $133,600 in local conservation grants

HARRISBURG, April 28 – State Rep. Jaret Gibbons, D-Lawrence/Beaver/Butler, announced today that Ellwood City in Lawrence County and Brighton Township in Beaver County will receive a total of $133,600 in Community Conservation Partnerships Program grants.

Ellwood City will receive a $100,000 grant to make several improvements to Ewing Park, including construction of a parking lot and walkways, trail improvements, amphitheater improvements, access for people with disabilities, and storm water and erosion control measures.

Brighton Township will receive a $33,600 grant to purchase 37 acres to expand Two Mile Run Park, providing more trails and a greenway corridor.

"Parks provide a valuable opportunity for outdoor recreation and environment appreciation," Gibbons said. "These grants will improve the experiences residents have in our area parks."

The Community Conservation Partnerships Program is administered by the state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources’ Bureau of Recreation and Conservation. The program provides technical and financial assistance to local governments, river and trail organizations, land trusts and other nonprofits so they can plan and develop park, recreation, conservation and greenways projects.

The partnerships program is funded by the state’s Keystone Recreation, Park and Conservation Fund, the Environmental Stewardship Fund, the Growing Greener Bond Fund and several federal funding sources.
