Rx for Pennsylvania plan moves forward
Gibbons’ bill to certify clinical nurse specialists now goes to Senate
HARRISBURG, June 26 – State Rep. Jaret Gibbons, D-Lawrence/Beaver/Butler, said Pennsylvanians are now one step closer to getting the health-care coverage they deserve. Today the House to passed key components of a health-care package designed to provide access to quality, affordable health-care coverage for all Pennsylvanians.
The package includes legislation introduced by Gibbons (H.B. 1254) that would ensure only clinical nurse specialists who are licensed, certified and meet board standards could use the clinical nurse specialist title in Pennsylvania.
House Democrats introduced the bills to enact Gov. Ed Rendell’s Prescription for Pennsylvania health-care proposal.
The various bills address a number of areas designed to make health-care coverage more affordable, increase access to medical care and reduce the cost of health care for residents and businesses.
Gibbons said components of the plan would reduce hospital-acquired infections, encourage health-care providers to offer evening and weekend hours so patients could go to a doctor’s office rather than an emergency room for routine medical care, provide affordable health insurance to all Pennsylvanians and expand the scope of practice for health-care professionals so they are able to provide health-care services to the fullest extent of their training.
“Good health care all the way around is one of our main priorities this session,” Gibbons said. ”The House recognized this and came together to pass these bills, which not only will improve the quality of care, but also reduce costs for everyone. I couldn’t be more pleased.”
Gibbons' bill and the other bills that passed today now go to the full Senate for consideration.
