Web site helps students plan for college
HARRISBURG, Nov. 19 – State Rep. Jaret Gibbons, D-Lawrence/Beaver/Butler, is reminding students considering higher education that planning early can provide an advantage and the Web site EducationPlanner.org can help. The site is recommended by the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency (PHEAA).
"Choosing a college or other post-secondary school, as well as a major is one of the most important decisions a person can make," Gibbons said. "Students and their families should work with a school counselor for college planning and using all of the information and resources available, such as EducationPlanner.org, can make the process easier and more effective.
"With Slippery Rock University in my district, I understand the importance of a good education. During these difficult economic times, finding the school that best matches a student's interests and is affordable is more important than ever."
The comprehensive online resource offers information on choosing a major, selecting a school, applying for admission and finding options for paying for the education. The site has tools to compare schools and aid packages, as well as links to more than 4,000 postsecondary schools. Students can also get timelines to keep track of activities they should engage in during the middle and high school years.
EducationPlanner.org also includes:
· Practice exams for the PSAT, SAT, and ACT;
· Tools to develop a student's first resume;
· Free scholarship search database;
· Courses to develop high quality college essays;
· Resources to help match a student's skills with career options.
The site allows students to create a free, secure account to save results of career, college and scholarship searches they conduct through EducationPlanner.org.
