Arts programs receive more than $3,400 in grants

HARRISBURG, Nov. 18 – State Rep. Jaret Gibbons, D-Lawrence/Beaver/Butler, announced that a pair of arts programs in his legislative district will receive a total of more than $3,400 in state grants through the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts.

Ellwood City Community Enrichment Inc. will receive a $1,130 grant. The organization is a subcommittee of the Ellwood City Chamber of Commerce. It organizes events such as an annual Earth DayEarth Day celebration in Ewing Park, a storytelling festival, a month-long arts and humanities series each February, and an artist in residence program each year in the Ellwood City and Riverside school districts.

The Pennsylvania Council on the Arts also awarded a $2,302 grant to Slippery Rock University's Kaleidoscope Arts Festival. The multi-day event attracts thousands of visitors to see the works of international artists and the talents of the school's students, and creates greater awareness of the arts on campus and in the community.

"I congratulate Ellwood City Community Enrichment and Slippery Rock University's Kaleidoscope Arts Festival for receiving these arts grants," Gibbons said. "Both programs do an excellent job of bringing the arts to our communities and are deserving of the funding from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts."
