Mini-grants available to those with autism, applications due April 18
HARRISBURG, March 17 – State Rep. Vince Biancucci, D-Beaver, announced today that the state is offering mini-grants to support individuals with an Autism Spectrum Disorder, or ASD. Applications are due by April 18.
"Treatment for ASD can often become extremely costly," Biancucci noted. "And with the growing number of people and families dealing with ASD, these grants could really do some good."
The mini-grants are available to individuals and families with a member who has ASD who cannot access existing support systems. Applicants may receive a maximum of $500 in mini-grants. The grants only will be offered once and only can be used for activities or services occurring between March 1 and Aug. 31.
The funds are made available through the Bureau of Autism Services within the state Department of Public Welfare. Applicants must be Pennsylvania residents, have ASD or a family member that does, and cannot be employees or contractors of the bureau. Applicants also cannot currently or in the past 12 months have received any other family support services.
Funding is limited and not everyone who applies will receive funds. To increase one's chances of receiving a grant, applicants should make sure that the application form and all documentation is correct.
Applications can be found on the bureau’s Web site, www.autisminpa.org under “News Items.” Residents also may call 1-866-497-6898 or e-mail c-jsands@state.pa.us to receive an application by mail. Biancucci's office can also answer any questions or help with filling out the application.
Applications must be sent to: Attn: F&I Mini-Grant, Bureau of Autism Services, Pennsylvania Department of Welfare, P.O. Box 2675, Harrisburg, PA 17105-2675.
