Biancucci says state budget good for environment and economy

HARRISBURG, July 4 – State Rep. Vince Biancucci, D-Beaver, issued the following statement in reaction to the 2008-09 state budget, which passed the House today.

"This year's state budget is symbolic of our commitment to truly break free of our dependence on foreign and unstable energy by instead investing in the people and businesses that can expand Pennsylvania's homegrown energy production.

"We've passed a massive multi-year, $650 million investment in the Energy Independence Strategy to help consumers save money and grow Pennsylvania's biodiesel and ethanol production capacity.

"It's a promising step for Pennsylvania biodiesel producers like the plant that recently came to Potter Township with its dozens of jobs. I'm hopeful that we'll see more plants here and across the state, providing great benefits to our workers and their families, our economic independence and our environmental security.

"I'm also pleased that we're providing more than $2 billion for improvements to our state's infrastructure. What's great is that these infrastructure projects will create thousands of good paying jobs for Pennsylvanians."
