Volunteer fire, ambulance service grant application period opens in September

MONACA, Aug. 20 – State Rep. Vince Biancucci, D-Beaver, is reminding local volunteer first-responders that it's time to apply for the 2008-09 round of grant funding under the Volunteer Fire Company and Volunteer Ambulance Service Grant Program.

Volunteer fire companies are encouraged to apply for grants between $2,500 and $15,000, while ambulance services are eligible for grants between $2,500 and $10,000. Funding may be awarded for up to two projects per applicant, including the construction/renovation/maintenance of facilities, purchase of ambulance or rescue equipment, debt reduction, or training and certification.

The online application period begins the first week of September and will remain open for 45 days. Exact dates will be announced on the program's Web site closer to the application period. Applicants should visit www.osfc.state.pa.us to access the application process.

In 2007, Biancucci and House Democrats sponsored legislation to extend funding for the Volunteer Fire Company and Ambulance Service Grant Program for five years through 2012. Under the new law, lawmakers will review and make any necessary changes every five years before reinstating the funding.
