Ramaley announces Helmets to Hardhats program to help vets transition to construction careers
HARRISBURG, March 7 – State Rep. Sean Ramaley, D-Beaver/Allegheny, is encouraging veterans returning from active duty in the military to investigate the career opportunities available through the Helmets to Hardhats program.
"Helmets to Hardhats connects Guard, Reserve and transitioning active-duty military members with career training and employment opportunities in the construction trades," Ramaley said.
Nationwide, the building and construction trade unions, employers and state joint apprenticeship training committees offer more than 86,000 job-training and career-training opportunities through the program.
The Pennsylvania Chapter of Helmets to Hardhats is funded by a Work Force Development grant from the state Department of Labor and Industry. Interested veterans and members of the military can register for Helmets to Hardhats by visiting the program's Web site at www.helmetstohardhats.org. Once registered, participants can browse construction trades careers that are available and submit interest in a trade. A representative from that trade will contact them automatically.
Pennsylvania veterans, Reservists and Guard members can also contact the state's local Helmets to Hardhats director at 1-800-381-7671 with questions or help with the program.
Helmets to Hardhats is free for members of the military. Ramaley encouraged spouses, parents and other family members of people serving on active duty overseas to make them aware of the program.
