Ramaley announces $440,000 in Beaver County rail grants
AMBRIDGE, March 28 – State Rep. Sean Ramaley, D-Beaver/Allegheny, today announced that two Beaver County rail freight projects will share in more than $440,000 worth of state grants.
Aliquippa and Ohio Railroad will use its $357,000 grant to rehabilitate the 7-mile railroad on the former LTV Steel site outside Aliquippa to provide service to existing and new customers who are experiencing increased cargo volume. Wolfpak Technology, a manufacturer of extruded plastic products, is receiving an $82,527 grant to rehabilitate a rail siding to its new facility.
"Pennsylvania has a rich history of railroad transportation. As the cost of fuel rises, transporting goods via rails is becoming more economical. Improving rail infrastructure is a good investment in Pennsylvania’s future,” Ramaley said.
Pennsylvania ranks fifth in the nation with more than 6,000 rail miles. More than 7,000 Pennsylvanians are employed by freight railroads. RFAP provides financial assistance to preserve essential rail freight and stimulate economic development through the generation of new or expanded rail freight service.
