Matzie announces grant opportunity for volunteer fire companies
HARRISBURG, May 10 – State Rep. Robert F. Matzie, D-Allegheny/Beaver, said a grant available through the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources offers assistance to volunteer fire companies.
The DCNR Volunteer Fire Assistance grant will help volunteer fire companies in rural areas with populations of 10,000 or less obtain up to $7,500.
That funding may be used to organize, train and equip locals to prevent, control and suppress fires which threaten human life, livestock, wildlife, crops, pastures, orchards, woodlands, farmsteads, or other improvements in rural areas.
"The key objectives of this program are to save lives and protect property in rural areas," Matzie said. The application period is closing soon, so I am urging local communities to apply for this funding as soon as possible."
The application window closes on May 17. Additional information about this grant is available at www.grants.dcnr.state.pa.us/LearnMore.aspx?GrantProgramId=62.
