Walko welcomes $565,000 in state financing for local business

PITTSBURGH, June 26 – State Rep. Don Walko, D-Allegheny, today welcomed the awarding of $565,000 in state financing to a North Side business.

“I am pleased that our area is again benefiting from Governor Rendell’s economic stimulus package that I supported and voted for,” Walko said.

Chris Candies Inc. on Spring Garden Avenue will receive a $565,000 low-interest loan from the Commonwealth Financing Authority. The loan will cover half the cost of machinery and equipment necessary to install a shell molding line. The new line is required to produce a new product soon to be released by a major customer.

The company has been in existence for over 60 years and its primary business is the manufacture of private-label chocolate bars and chocolate novelties.
