Legislation would include more seniors in PACE and PACENET
HARRISBURG, April 14 – State Rep. Lisa Bennington, D-Allegheny, recently co-sponsored a bill to open the state's prescription assistance programs, PACE and PACENET, to more senior citizens.
House Bill 2467 would increase the maximum annual income for PACE eligibility from $14,500 to $16,500 for a single person, and from $17,700 to $19,700 for a married couple's combined total income.
It also would increase the PACENET maximum income eligibility from $23,500 to $25,500 for a single person, and from $31,500 to $33,500 for a married couple's combined total income.
"With the looming national recession, seniors are getting hit hard and we need to do everything we can to make sure they qualify for programs that already exist," Bennington said. "I cannot, in good conscience, stand by knowing that many of my senior constituents are choosing between necessary medications and food. These are people who, for years, worked, paid taxes, built our communities and our neighborhoods. We can’t turn our backs on them now."
The PACE and PACENET programs offer Pennsylvania’s low-income senior citizens prescription assistance.
