Wagner announces West Liberty roadwork to begin Monday
HARRISBURG, May 13 – State Rep. Chelsa Wagner, D-Brookline, today announced that PennDOT will begin a major construction project on West Liberty Ave. at 7 p.m. on Monday, May 16.
Wagner said crews will begin work to remove old trolley tracks and block buried beneath the roadway and reconstruct West Liberty Avenue between the Port Authority busway entrance (south of Brookside Avenue) and the intersection of Wenzell Avenue/Brookline Boulevard. Traffic will be reduced to a single lane in each direction through early November. Temporary concrete barrier will be installed to separate work areas from traffic. Work will occur in sections.
PennDOT advises motorists to use caution, slow down and be aware of changing traffic patterns when driving through the area. Delays should be expected.
The overall $7.3 million project will mill and resurface about 2.44 miles of West Liberty Avenue from Saw Mill Run Boulevard (Route 51) to McFarland Road, including minor base repairs, joint repairs, inlet and manhole improvements, improved delineation to clarify lane designations, new traffic signals, pedestrian crossings, ADA ramp and sidewalk improvements, and roadway excavation and reconstruction to remove old trolley tracks, cobble stone and slag/cement. The project will conclude in late 2011.
