Frankel backs $10 million increase for education tax credit
HARRISBURG, July 3 – State Rep. Dan Frankel, D-Allegheny, said the 2010-11 state budget package includes a $10 million increase for the Educational Improvement Tax Credit, bringing its funding to $60 million.
The program gives businesses tax credits for contributions to qualified scholarship, educational improvement and pre-kindergarten scholarship organizations.
"While the nationwide recession has limited state revenues for more than two years, we have made education a priority in the budget. I am pleased we were able to provide an increase for this public/private partnership that benefits children in Pittsburgh and throughout the state," said Frankel, a member of the House Appropriations and Finance committees.
The budget package also includes a $250 million increase in state funding for public schools.
More information about the tax credit program is available online at www.newPA.com/EITC.
