Preston wants consumers to get a break when buying environmentally friendly hybrid electric vehicles
HARRISBURG, Jan. 30 – State Rep. Joseph Preston, D-Allegheny, plans to again introduce two bills that would provide valuable incentives to car buyers when they purchase Hybrid Electric Vehicles in Pennsylvania.
Preston said with the emerging technology, his proposals would benefit consumers across the state.
“The Hybrid Electric Vehicle presents a great opportunity for both emission reduction and fuel economy improvements,” said Preston, majority chairman of the House Consumer Affairs Committee.
The first proposal would exempt HEVs from the annual state emission inspection requirement. The legislation would provide an exemption for hybrid vehicles with a city fuel economy rating of 40 miles per gallon or better in accordance with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Fuel Economy Guide.
The second bill would provide a sales tax exemption when people purchase HEVs, electric vehicles and zero-emission vehicles.
Preston’s 24th Legislative District is comprised of Aspinwall and Wilkinsburg, as well as portions of Pittsburgh.
