Workforce training funds announced by Preston

PITTSBURGH, Nov. 2 – Two local businesses in the 24th Legislative District will receive workforce training grants totaling $30,355 from the state Department of Community and Economic Development, according to state Rep. Joseph Preston Jr., D-Allegheny.

Guaranteed Free Training grants were awarded by the Workforce and Economic Development Network of Pennsylvania to Management Science Associates Inc. -- $16,335; and UPMC St. Margaret – $14,020.

"Properly training our workforce will have them prepared and ready to go once the economy is back on track," Preston said. "This training helps employees become more efficient, leads companies to a more competitive position and supports the commonwealth to realize a more meaningful economic recovery."

WEDnetPA is funded by DCED through the PA First Fund, Preston said.

Since its inception in 1999, WEDnetPA has invested in more than 15,500 companies and helped train nearly 950,000 Pennsylvania workers.

On average, companies provide a 4-to-1 total match for every WEDnetPA dollar invested in training.
