Markosek maintains perfect attendance record

HARRISBURG, April 14 – In his almost 26 years in office, state Rep. Joseph Markosek, D-Allegheny/Westmoreland, has maintained a record of perfect attendance when the legislature is in session.

Markosek has consecutively voted on hundreds of pieces of legislation and since pulled ahead of a former legislator’s record of consecutive votes cast on the House floor. Markosek said he has voted on numerous critical issues over the years and looks forward to new challenges, including in his position as the House Transportation Committee chairman.

"I believe that perfect attendance signifies a person’s sense of duty and obligation," Markosek stated. "When I was sworn in, I took an oath of office and vowed to continue serving the people of my district with honor and respect. My perfect attendance also speaks to my love for the job. Each day we meet in Harrisburg to consider legislation I am there, voting on issues in the best interest of my constituents."

Speaker of the House Dennis O’Brien, R-Phila., noted, "Joe Markosek is one of the stars of the House of Representatives, and his perfect attendance record is well known and admired by his colleagues. I’ve had the pleasure of working with Joe for many years on issues relating to autism and I’ve been enriched by Joe’s knowledge and creativity."

Markosek has worked to improve life for the disabled, raise the bar on education, fix roads and protect consumers. Among his greatest legislative achievements is his introduction of legislation, now law, ensuring appropriate standards of care for autistic children.

"I have had the privilege to make many memorable legislative votes over the years on state budgets, senior citizens’ programs, child-care services and transportation – issues that directly impact the quality of life for my constituents," he said. "As transportation chairman, I also have the opportunity to tackle and improve the nation's fifth-largest highway system and raise safety standards for every Pennsylvanian. That is a role that you cannot walk away from, even for one day."

Markosek was first elected to the House in 1982. He represents the 25th Legislative District, which includes all or parts of North Versailles Township and Monroeville, Pitcairn, Plum, Trafford, Wall, and Murrysville boroughs.
