Neville Township to receive $3 million for sewer project

HARRISBURG, July 21 – State Rep. Daniel Deasy, D-Allegheny, announced today that Neville Township will receive $3 million in Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority funding for a sewer project.

The project will replace two old pump stations which are at risk of breaking, causing untreated sewage to be discharged into the Ohio River. It will also replace approximately 15,800 feet of force mains and 225 feet of gravity sewers.

"Already the sewer releases untreated sewage periodically, causing health risks to the public and to aquatic life," Deasy said. "These sewers need to be replaced, and I’m glad the township has received the necessary funding for this project."

Deasy said the financing is being provided to the township in the form of principal forgiveness and will not have to be repaid. The project is expected to create 20 construction-related jobs.

Pennvest, an independent agency, was established in 1988 by the General Assembly. It receives state and federal funding to provide assistance to the owners and operators of substandard and deteriorated water and sewer systems throughout the state. These projects contribute to improving Pennsylvania's environment and the health of residents, as well as provide opportunities for economic growth and jobs for Pennsylvania's workers.
