Crafton Crime Watch honored for its service to community

CRAFTON, Sept. 3 – State Rep. Dan Deasy, D-Allegheny, presented a number of legislative citations to area residents during a Community Service Awards program last night held by Crafton Mayor Susan O'Connell.

Deasy presented citations from the Pennsylvania House of Representatives to honor the members of the Crafton Crime Watch for their efforts in fighting crime.

"It's a great thing when people of the community look out for each other and watch over the safety and security of their neighborhoods," Deasy said. "I was proud to honor the Crafton Crime Watch for their 20-plus years of existence."

Deasy presented citations to Janet Finlay, Katie Fazio, Bill Finlay, Mary Flemming, Dave Aston, Sandy Gibson, Diane McQuaide, O'Connell, Chief Harold Rost and Capt. Paul Tolkacevic for their involvement in the crime watch.

Established in 1986, Crafton Crime Watch is a citizen crime watch program in which the town's residents work with the Crafton Police Department to create a more secure community. Citizens demonstrate their presence at all hours of the day and night and report suspicious activity to the police who keep citizens abreast of pertinent information through the watch's alert electronic mailings and police department Web site.

Crafton is divided into six crime watch areas, each headed by an area coordinator.
