DeLuca announces $35,955 recycling grant for Penn Hills

HARRISBURG, March 12 – State Rep. Tony DeLuca, D-Allegheny, announced that Penn Hills has been awarded a $35,955 state grant for its recycling program.

DeLuca said the amount of the grant is based on the 2,850 tons recycled in 2006 and the community's population.

"The people of Penn Hills take pride in their community by pitching in and recycling now more than ever," DeLuca said. "I am always pleased to see that there are people in my district who are making an effort to recycle waste into reusable material."

The funding was awarded through the Recycling Performance Grant Program, which provides an incentive to help Pennsylvania communities increase the amount of materials recovered through recycling and promote economic growth in the state through job creation and market expansion.

Pennsylvania’s recycling industry includes more than 3,240 recycling and reuse businesses, and generates $18.4 billion in gross annual sales. It provides jobs for more than 81,000 people. More information about Pennsylvania’s recycling efforts is available online at www.depweb.state.pa.us.
