House Insurance Committee holds hearing on oncology parity bill
HARRISBURG, March 18 – State Rep. Tony DeLuca, D-Allegheny, chairman of the House Insurance Committee, held a hearing today on oncology insurance coverage at Hershey Medical Center.
The hearing was on legislation (H.B. 1865) introduced by state Rep. Frank Burns, D-Cambria/Somerset.
"It is important that committee members hear from people whose lives are affected by this dreaded disease so we can better understand the need to pass this type of legislation to help treat cancer victims and get them the medical help they need," DeLuca said.
Individuals testifying at the hearing included officials from the Hershey Medical Center, government representatives on health-care reform, representatives from insurance providers, oncology alliance organizations and a cancer survivor.
This year, DeLuca plans additional insurance hearings at locations across the state.
