Costa: House passes measure to expand community fundraising efforts
HARRISBURG, June 12 – Today, the state House passed legislation introduced by state Rep. Paul Costa, D-Allegheny, that would authorize a Pennsylvania professional sports team’s affiliated charity to conduct 50/50 raffles in order to help local charities raise money for their causes.
House Bill 2015 would amend the Local Option Small Games of Chance Act to allow the commonwealth’s most well-recognized and respected sports organizations to raise funds for the community programs where they are located.
"In light of the current economy, this provides an opportunity to raise significant charitable dollars that go back to the community," Costa said.
The charitable organizations conducting the raffles would be required to disclose beneficiaries of the raffle and donate proceeds within seven days of the drawing. At the end of the season, any unclaimed prizes would be donated to the organization for which the raffle was conducted.
The measure now moves to the Senate for consideration.
