Gergely named Legislator of the Year by Pa. chapter of National Association of Social Workers
HARRISBURG, Feb. 28 – The National Association of Social Workers Pennsylvania Chapter has named state Rep. Marc Gergely, D-Allegheny, as one of two recipients of its prestigious Legislators of the Year award.
Gergely was selected for the award for championing legislation (H.B. 1693) that would simplify the process by which clinical social workers, marriage and family therapists, and professional counselors licensed outside of Pennsylvania can seek licensure to work in the Commonwealth.
NASW-PA is a chapter of the National Association of Social Workers, the largest association for professional social workers. The organization serves 150,000 members nationwide. In Pennsylvania, NASW-PA represents more than 6,100 members and works to enhance the professional growth and development of social workers, to create and maintain professional social work standards, and to advance sound social policies.
Gergely will be recognized during a luncheon in March at the NASW-PA’s annual conference, which will be held in Pittsburgh. His legislation passed the House and is currently awaiting action in the Senate Consumer Protection and Professional Licensure Committee.
