Readshaw honors cycle group

HARRISBURG, May 8 – State Rep. Harry Readshaw, D-Allegheny, presented a citation in honor of motorcycle safety and awareness month to the cycle advocacy group ABATE on Monday.

The Alliance of Bikers Aimed Toward Education is a group which uses its strength in numbers to develop rules and regulations promoting biker safety.

Readshaw presented a copy of his H.R. 221, which recognizes May as Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month in Pennsylvania, to ABATE’s Assistant State Coordinator Steve Zurl.

The resolution was adopted unanimously by the House last month.

Bikers from around the state drove through the rain to fill the Capitol Rotunda celebrating the citation.

Readshaw personally thanked the riders for their support of his Pennsylvania Gettysburg Monuments project, which has raised money to restore the endangered monuments on the battlefields of Gettysburg.

“This group has been with me on 11 rides from Harrisburg to Gettysburg, and has helped me raise over $100,000 for monument restoration,” Readshaw said.
