Kortz: PennDOT hiring college students for summer jobs
HARRISBURG, Jan. 15 – State Rep. Bill Kortz, D-Allegheny, said the state Transportation Department is currently hiring college students for summer employment as seasonal workers.
"With more people looking for jobs, summer employment for college students may not be as easy to find as it has been in past years," Kortz said. "This is a great opportunity, and I encourage applicable students to take advantage and apply as soon as possible, as these jobs are likely to be in high demand."
To qualify, student candidates must be 18 and enrolled in college for the 2010 fall semester.
The positions are full time and will pay $11.32 per hour. These positions last the duration of the summer and commence as early as April 1. These employees typically augment regular maintenance crews on maintenance projects throughout each county.
Candidates should apply online through the state's non-civil service employment Web site, www.employment.pa.gov. To apply, candidates should select the "Student Summer Employment" category. Applications are due by the close of business on Friday, Jan. 22.
PennDOT is mandated to conduct reference checks for all applicants and will make the hiring decisions.
