Dravosburg Historical Society book dedicated to State Library

HARRISBURG, June 29 – State Rep. Bill Kortz, D-Allegheny, today welcomed special guests from his hometown of Dravosburg for a book dedication ceremony honoring the inclusion of the book, "All About the Burg," a compilation of works celebrating Dravosburg's centennial, to the State Library of Pennsylvania.

"I am extremely proud today to know that this book about our hometown of Dravosburg will remain forever alongside the works of such great patriots and writers as Benjamin Franklin," Kortz said.

Kortz said "All About the Burg" began as the vision of Dravosburg Historical Society President Dick Backus and was seen through by Historical Society members. The book is a byproduct of Dravosburg's 2003 Centennial celebration. It relates the metamorphosis of the tiny western Pennsylvania settlement from an agricultural hamlet in the late 18th century to a mining town in the 19th century, and to the residential community it is today.

The 363-page book compiles photographs and stories from many Dravosburg residents, including Kortz, to record the times and changes to the borough and its people. The book not only documents the town's history but captures the extraordinary caring nature of its people and their pride in the community, said Kortz.

Caryn Karr, director of the Bureau of the State Library of Pennsylvania, received the book at today's ceremony.
