West Elizabeth receives state funds for sewer improvements
WEST ELIZABETH, July 14 – State Sen. J. Barry Stout and state Rep. David Levdansky, both D- Allegheny, announced the approval of a $1.7 million loan and a $259,000 grant to the West Elizabeth Sanitary Authority for a sewer separation project.
"These state funds are essential for helping to protect our environment and keep our water clean," Stout said. "Without state support, many communities would not be able to afford these improvements."
"The current sewer system is overflowing into the Monongahela River," Levdansky said. "Updating these sewers will put a stop to that and improve service to 226 residents."
The funds will be used to construct 7,000 feet of new sanitary sewer lines and convert the existing combined sewer into a storm sewer.
The Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority board approved West Elizabeth's application for a loan. An independent agency managed by a 13-member board of directors, Pennvest is funded by nearly $2 billion from state appropriations, state bond sales and federal grants. While helping hundreds of local governments take on clean water projects, Pennvest funding has also generated thousands of construction jobs and helped maintain thousands more.
