Levdansky announces conservation grants for 39th District

ELIZABETH, Nov. 20 – State Rep. David Levdansky, D-Allegheny/Washington, announced that three grants have been awarded for projects in his legislative district in Allegheny County through the state Community Conservation Partnerships Program.

The grants, which totaled more than $567,000, are aimed at providing financial and technical assistance for the planning, acquisition and development of park, recreation, conservation and greenway projects.

"These projects will provide residents with an opportunity to enjoy and appreciate nature and involve themselves in recreational activities," Levdansky said. "I am happy to have played a role in facilitating these grants, and I hope the state will continue to invest in these worthy conservation initiatives in Allegheny County. These grants will give children a safe place to play, encourage people to learn about wildlife and make the outdoors accessible to people of all ages and physical abilities."

Allegheny Land Trust will receive $39,000, which will be used to acquire and preserve 40 acres adjacent to Dead Mans Hollow Conservation Area and along the Youghiogheny River in Lincoln and Elizabeth Township.

Elizabeth Township will receive $307,000 to purchase 30 acres off Chapel Drive for a community center and recreational area.

Montour Trail Council will receive $221,500 to extend the Montour Trail from Triphammer Road to Piney Fork Road. The grant will also be used for infrastructure improvements, such as drainage, signage, handicap accessibility modifications and landscaping.

Levdansky is a member of the House Environmental Resources and Energy Committee and has been ranked as one of the most environmentally friendly legislators by the Pennsylvania League of Conservation Voters.
