Smith applauds MBA on LEED Gold rated headquarters
MT. LEBANON, Feb. 22 – State Rep. Matt Smith, D-Allegheny, presented the Master Builders’ Association of Western Pennsylvania with a House of Representatives’ citation in recognition of their Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold certification for their headquarters, located in Green Tree.
The LEED certification, issued by the U.S. Green Building Council, recognizes high-performance and sustainable building.
"As a proponent of green building in the House of Representatives, I’m thrilled to have a shining example in my district," Smith said. "The building represents the environmental and efficiency commitment of the trades represented by the MBA.
"When it came time to renovate our building, there was no question that we would seek a LEED rating," said Jack Ramage, executive director of the MBA. "As an association that’s committed to both sustainability and construction excellence, it’s important for the MBA to lead by example by obtaining a high LEED rating for our headquarters."
In addition to Smith and Ramage, representatives from the building’s architecture firm Rothschild Doyno Collaborative, and the Green Building Alliance were on hand for the event.
Smith is the sponsor of legislation (H.B. 444) that would require all buildings constructed or refurbished with state funds to be environmentally responsible and energy efficient. The measure currently awaits consideration by the state Senate.
