Smith welcomes the Blue Devils girls' basketball team to state Capitol

HARRISBURG, May 3 – State Rep. Matt Smith, D-Allegheny, hosted the Mt. Lebanon High School Girls' Basketball Team at the state Capitol on Monday to recognize the team on its second consecutive PIAA class AAAA Girls' Basketball Championship title.

"The Blue Devils not only took the state championship, they became the first WPIAL Class AAAA team to do so in back to back seasons," Smith said. "It was an absolutely incredible testament to their dedication, talent and drive – both individually and, of course, as a great team."

Smith escorted the team to the House floor during the day's legislative session to share their story with fellow lawmakers. Smith said that the Blue Devils built on last year’s achievement, and they are all winners on and off the court.

"These young ladies have shown perseverance on the court, in the classroom, and are also active in their community," Smith added.

"We are extremely honored to be here.  This is and an honor for myself and the team and we are appreciative of Representative Smith and Senator Pippy for inviting us back," said Head Coach Dori Oldaker.

"I feel honored to be recognized by the General Assembly," senior point guard Jess Babe said. "Not many people can say that. It was a great experience and good end to my time with the team."

Senior forward Lauren Arbogast added, "It is a great honor and we worked hard for it."

Smith presented the team with a House of Representatives citation.
