Smith honored at Outreach’s Glitz and Grapes Gala
HARRISBURG, May 8 – Outreach Teen and Family Services honored state Rep. Matt Smith, D-Allegheny, and his wife Eileen Smith recently for their years of support for Outreach and their dedication to the health, safety and wellbeing of children which parallels Outreach’s own mission.
"It is truly an honor to be recognized and be given the opportunity to support an organization that touches so many families in Mt. Lebanon and across western Pennsylvania," Smith said. "Through their involvement in local schools, Outreach is a model organization for intervention and support for teens and families."
The event, titled Glitz and Grapes on Grandview, was held at the LeMont in Mount Washington and included a wine tasting, sit-down dinner and entertainment by members of the Mt. Lebanon High School Orchestra.
Gala co-chairs are Mt. Lebanon residents Allison Alexander and Tammy Janero with Sharyn Reagan, Outreach’s Fundraising and Marketing Coordinator leading the planning committee. The Gala is Outreach’s largest fundraiser and raises money for the organization’s general operating expenses. Proceeds from the event allow Outreach to continue providing professional and affordable counseling to children and their families in Mt. Lebanon and surrounding communities. This fundraiser will benefit adolescents and their families by providing them with counseling and educational programs that are easily accessible, non-judgmental, and confidential.
Outreach board president, Coleman McDonough pointed to the responsiveness of both Outreach and Smith as the commonality that the bonds the honoree and organization.
"One of my priorities in the legislature is protecting our young people and whether it be through my support of anti-bullying legislation or legislation we passed to address teen dating violence and by fighting to preserve education funding, I look to the work Outreach does as a model for the rest of the state," Smith added.
Smith was first elected to the legislature in 2006 and currently serves on the House Agriculture & Rural Affairs, Appropriations, Finance and Insurance Committees. Smith serves on the Tobacco Settlement Investment Board, the Allegheny County Airport Authority and Three Rivers Regatta Board. He was named one of Pittsburgh’s "40 Under 40" in 2010 by PUMP and Pittsburgh Magazine and received the 2011 American Association of Architects (AIA) Pennsylvania Government Award.
