Smith welcomes Blue Devils to state House for congratulations
HARRISBURG, May 13 – State Rep. Matt Smith, D-Allegheny, hosted the Mt. Lebanon High School Girls' Basketball Team at the state House on Monday to congratulate the team on its recent victory at the 2008-09 PIAA State Class AAAA Girls' Basketball Championship.
"The Blue Devils not only took the championship, they became champions without losing a game all season," Smith said. "It was an absolutely incredible testament to their dedication, talent and drive – both individually and, of course, as a great team."
Smith escorted the team to the House floor during the day's legislative session to share their story with fellow lawmakers. Smith proudly explained that the Blue Devils finished the season undefeated with a record of 31-0, becoming the first Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League Class AAAA team to do so while also winning the championship.
The lawmaker also presented the team with a House of Representatives citation, and the entire House offered a round of applause.
