Smith welcomes Green Tree mayor in recognition of town’s 125th anniversary

 

HARRISBURG, June 9 – State Rep. Matt Smith, D-Allegheny, this week hosted Green Tree Mayor C.F. "Chuck" Hammer and his wife Celine at the state capitol.

 

Smith sponsored a House resolution, which was passed unanimously, recognizing Green Tree’s 125th anniversary.   

 

"Modern day Green Tree has roots dating back to the late 1700s and George Washington’s time in western Pennsylvania and West Virginia," Smith said.  "That respect to heritage and history is exemplified in the Borough and Historical Society’s effort to commemorate this occasion."

 

Smith escorted the mayor to the House floor during the day's legislative session. 

 

"This 125 year anniversary is a milestone for the borough," Hammer said, following his visit to the capitol. "The borough is different today with new development, but the friendly people and well kept homes that made me fall in love with the community 65 years ago are still the same today."  

 

The lawmaker presented the mayor, on behalf of Green Tree Borough, with a copy of the resolutionSmith will also be on hand on July 17 to present the resolution to the community at the Green Tree Celebration Dinner.
