Kotik, Smith welcome Scott officials in recognition of town’s 150th

HARRISBURG, June 21 – State Reps. Matt Smith and Nick Kotik, both D-Allegheny, hosted Scott Township Manager Denise Fitzgerald and Council President Patricia Caruso at the state Capitol on Monday.

Kotik and Smith jointly sponsored a House resolution, which was passed unanimously, recognizing Scott Township's 150th anniversary.

"From Old St. Luke's Church, the oldest Episcopal Church in southwestern PA, to Bower Hill, one of the sites of the Whiskey Rebellion, Scott Township has a distinguished history in our region," Smith said. "Scott Township remains a place where heritage is respected and community is fostered through the many organizations, businesses and families that call Scott home."

The representatives escorted the officials to the House floor during the day's legislative session.

"The citizens of Scott Township have a proud history that has been a magnet for encouraging new residents who are interested in a quality of life that has been sustained throughout its neighborhoods for over 150 years," Kotik said.

Scott Township is planning community events, particularly on July 4th.

"The experience of seeing how bills are passed is one I will soon not forget. We appreciated the hospitality our legislators extended to us even during their busy schedule," said Township Manager Denise Fitzgerald.

"We greatly appreciate the honor bestowed upon us. The experience was very interesting and educational," said Council President Caruso.

The lawmakers plan to present all Scott officials with a copy of the resolution at a future council meeting.
