Rep. Smith announces free preventative heart screening event July 12-13

MT. LEBANON, June 26 – State Rep. Matt Smith, D-Allegheny, today invited all residents of the 42nd Legislative District to a free heart screening fair in Mt. Lebanon on July 12-13.

The fair will offer free heart screenings, CPR classes, Automatic External Defibrillator demonstrations and other information to promote heart health. Smith will have a booth with state-related information available and will present a House of Representatives resolution recognizing July 12 and 13, 2008, as "Sudden Arrhythmia Death Syndrome Days" in Pennsylvania to increase awareness of the condition.

Smith said the fair is being organized by Nathan Khosla, a Mt. Lebanon resident who suffered from a potentially deadly heart arrhythmia when he was 8. Nathan is now working to promote awareness and prevention of heart-related health issues as part of his Eagle Scout project.

All residents at least 6 years of age or older are welcome to take part at the Mt. Lebanon Public Safety Center's second floor learning center, 555 Washington Road (next to the cemetery), from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, July 12 and Sunday, July 13.

Pre-registration for the fair is required by July 8 by calling 1-866-722-8008 or visiting www.heartscreenamerica.com. For further information, visit www.SadsEagleProject.com.
