Smith secures $15,000 traffic safety grant for Mt. Lebanon police
MT. LEBANON, July 30 – On Monday, Rep. Matt Smith, D-Allegheny, presented the Mt. Lebanon Police Department with a $15,000 grant to purchase a speed warning trailer, designed to help cut down on speeding motorists and reduce the number of crashes.
"I have heard from many constituents on the need for additional traffic mitigation in Mt. Lebanon and I am happy to assist our local police efforts to reduce traffic and speeding here," Smith said. "A new speed warning trailer will be a useful tool in keeping our residents safe on the streets by reminding them of their actual speed. I hope it will encourage people to slow down and drive more carefully in our walking community. I believe we must make every effort to ensure that our community remains pedestrian friendly."
Smith obtained the grant through the state Department of Community and Economic Development, which has pledged more than $760,000 in funding for community affairs and development projects in Pennsylvania. These projects were all supported by programs administered through the DCED's Governor’s Center for Local Government Services.
