Smith’s senior fair immunizes over 550 people

MT. LEBANON, Oct. 19 – State Rep. Matt Smith, D-Allegheny, said that 550 seniors were immunized against seasonal influenza during his third annual senior fair that was held Thursday, Oct. 8.

An area shortage of the seasonal flu vaccine and the concern about H1N1 had more seniors seeking the vaccine.

Smith said his senior fair, held at the Galleria of Mt. Lebanon, was the most successful yet with more than an estimated 1,000 people attending. Area residents 65 and older were able to find information on a variety of services, undergo free health screenings and meet other local seniors.

"This year’s senior fair had another great turnout of local seniors and family members," Smith said. "It is an invaluable opportunity to be able to discuss residents’ concerns and provide them with direct assistance."

Smith's fair provided free information on a variety of state and local issues from exhibitors, applications for the Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program and PACE and PACENET, free flu shots, lunchtime entertainment, door prizes and light refreshments. St. Clair Hospital provided several free medical screenings, as well.
