Mt. Lebanon Kids Health & Safety Fair to be held October 31

MT. LEBANON, Oct. 26 – State Rep. Matt Smith and Allegheny County Councilman Vince Gastgeb will host the 2009 Mt. Lebanon Child Health & Safety Fair from noon to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31 in Mt. Lebanon’s Public Safety Center, 555 Washington Road.

The fair immediately follows Mt. Lebanon’s annual Great Pumpkin Patch Parade, which will begin at 11 a.m. in the Mt. Lebanon Cemetery adjacent to the public safety building.

"As in the past, we’re hosting the fair to provide the youth of Allegheny County with an opportunity to learn about safety directly from experts who practice and teach safety techniques regularly in Allegheny County and Mt. Lebanon," Gastgeb said. "Halloween is a perfect opportunity to enlighten children about the importance of remaining safe and healthy."

Display tables containing literature and information on child health and safety will be attended by representatives of emergency services and health departments, as well as those from the state, county and Mt. Lebanon.  Safety mascots, such as McGruff the Crime Dog, Sparky the Fire Dog and Otto the Auto, will entertain the children, and Mt. Lebanon fire engines will be displayed.  Candy will be available for the trick-or-treaters.

"We look forward to seeing familiar faces and meeting new families at the event," said Smith, D-Allegheny.  "This is a great opportunity for families to pick up information and have questions answered."

The fair will also include information for parents about efforts to keep the community safe for children, and police department representatives will be available to answer questions and discuss safety issues.

The event is free and open to the public.  No registration is required. Costumes are encouraged.    The event will be held rain or shine.
