Kotik: tens of thousands more Pennsylvanians to receive health insurance
CORAOPOLIS, Jan. 24 – State Rep. Nick Kotik, D-Allegheny, today said he was pleased that 29,000 people who have been on the waiting list for Pennsylvania’s adultBasic insurance program are now being offered health insurance.
“This statewide health insurance program is an asset to more than 5,000 people in Allegheny County already,” said Kotik. “We are now helping to provide the basic, necessary health-care coverage to even more adults who have been waiting to receive coverage.”
AdultBasic is offered at a cost of about $33 per month. The coverage includes doctor visits, emergency care, hospital stays, preventative care, and diagnostic and other services. To be eligible for adultBasic, applicants must be between 19 and 64 with no other health-care coverage, including Medicaid or Medicare. Applicants must also meet certain income guidelines that range from $5,100 to $20,420 for an individual and from $10,200 to $62,180 for a family of seven.
“Worrying about how to pay for basic health-care services is a burden that will now be lifted off of the thousands of new adultBasic enrollees,” Kotik said. “By enabling more people to be covered under this state program, the health-care status in Pennsylvania will continue to improve. We already saw strides taken last year with portions of Governor Rendell’s Prescription for Pennsylvania package becoming law.”
