Kotik bill would update airport regulations
HARRISBURG, June 19 – State Rep. Nick Kotik, D-Allegheny, said he has introduced legislation that would update passenger service regulations at Pittsburgh International Airport.
The legislation (H.B. 1747) would require all common carrier services transporting passengers for a fee to the airport to obtain a certificate from the Public Utility Commission.
"This only currently applies to taxis and limousines," Kotik said. "Every other airport in the state has such a regulation in place when dealing with fee-based services, and we're trying to bring the Pittsburgh airport in line with all the rest.
"This is a customer-safety measure; it would give consumers the ability to know that their service provider is insured and has met proper safety standards. It would also mean that any complaints relating to the service or the carrier would now be subject to additional oversight."
Kotik adds the bill is supported by the Allegheny County Airport Authority and under review by the Port Authority of Allegheny County.
The bill has been referred to the House Consumer Affairs Committee.
