Kotik: rebates available for purchase of hybrid vehicles
CORAOPOLIS, Nov. 14 – State Rep. Nick Kotik, D-Allegheny, said $500 state rebates are available for people who purchase qualifying hybrid vehicles.
"The intent is to make the car-buying process more affordable," Kotik said. "Also, because the rebates are geared to hybrids, the focus turns to fuel conservation as well as strengthening our energy independence. This has been a very successful program in Pennsylvania to date.
"Continuing this program helps expand on several key pieces of legislation we passed this session -- from the Energy Independence Strategy that is very consumer-driven with savings on 'green' products, to smart metering to allow people to monitor their own energy use, to increasing our development of homegrown fuels like biodiesel."
Rebate forms and a list of vehicles that are currently eligible for the Hybrid Electric Vehicle Rebate are offered through the state Department of Environmental Protection and can be found by going to www.depweb.state.pa.us and entering the keyword: Hybrid Vehicle Rebates.
All forms and information must be returned to DEP within six months of a vehicle purchase in order to qualify.
Rebate forms must include the following information:
- A copy of a valid Pennsylvania vehicle registration.
- A copy of a bill of sale.
- A proof of purchase of the vehicle.
Kotik said rebate forms are also available by calling 866-294-3854 or 717-214-3492.
