RE: New district office employee

To me, there is no part of my job more important than providing quality constituent services. As a legislator, it often feels as though there are so many things I am unable to do on my own. I can't singlehandedly eliminate property taxes. I can't fix a broken health-care system or solve a struggling economy. But what I can do is try and solve a problem when you bring it to my doorstep.

The range of problems my office deals with on a daily basis is expansive, from processing your PennDOT documents to getting a handicap placard for your car. My office is a place that people often end up when they don’t know where to turn. Over the past two years, we have been able to help people through some pretty extraordinary problems, and there is no substitute for the feeling you get when you know that you have made a positive difference in a person’s life.

Of course, I can't deal with every constituent issue myself, so I have come to depend on my staff to help me a great deal. My motto for the staffers in all of my offices is simple: Figure out the problem, fix it, and if you don’t know how to fix it, talk to someone who does, and then fix it. There is nothing more annoying than the feeling that you are getting the runaround from someone who could care less about your problem, and I have tried very hard to avoid such an experience when you contact my office.

This summer has been a true test of my ability to serve you, since we have been short-staffed for several weeks now since Jeanne Vega moved on to greener professional pastures. I would like to thank my summer interns, Laura Evantz, Andy Shannon, Nick Godfrey and Taylor Lescollette, for all of their hard work to help keep the ship afloat these past few weeks.

But as the summer begins to fade into fall, the time has come to get back into a regular routine, which is why I am happy to announce that I have found someone to take over my Burgettstown office on a full-time basis. Following an extensive search, it is my extreme pleasure to welcome Mrs. Patty Neil into my legislative family.

Patty was born and raised in the area, and she and her family currently reside in Burgettstown. I believe that she has the perfect combination of professional experience and a commitment to our community. If there is anything we can do for you, or if you just happen to be on Main Street in Burgettstown, please don’t hesitate to stop in and say hello.

After all, with apologies to Ronald Reagan, we’re from the government. We’re here to help.
