Daley seeks candidates for military college scholarship

HARRISBURG, Jan. 27 – State Rep. Peter J. Daley, D-Fayette/Washington, announced that applications from the 49th Legislative District are being accepted for a scholarship to the Valley Forge Military College through the VFMC Legislative Initiative.

“This initiative gives a student interested in attending Valley Forge Military College the opportunity to receive a scholarship to the school,” Daley said. “If selected, the individual will receive a $12,000 annual scholarship.”

The scholarship funds are not state money, but instead are provided by Valley Forge Military College. The school offers additional financial aid for students in need.

For the academic year 2012-13, eligible students must have a minimum SAT score of 1,000 or a 21 on the ACT, and an overall high school grade-point average of 2.5. Candidates also should exhibit involvement in sports or other extracurricular activities, demonstrate leadership potential and be service-oriented.

The college offers an Army ROTC Early Commissioning Program, as well as a transfer program to top-tier four-year colleges and universities throughout the country.

Daley has assembled a selection committee of community residents to review the applications and to select the most qualified candidate. The deadline for students to apply is Feb. 15. Forms are available at Daley’s district offices. Information also is available online at http://college.vfmac.edu/FinancialAid/PALegislativeAppointmentInitiative.aspx.

The scholarship recipient from the 49th Legislative District for 2011 was Caston Schneider of Amity.

Valley Forge Military College was recognized by the Pennsylvania House of Representatives as the Commonwealth’s official military college. Founded in 1928, it is a co-educational college located in Wayne, Delaware County.
