House Commerce Committee to hold hearing in Midland

Topic: Economic Development and Job Creation

HARRISBURG, March 18 – The Pennsylvania House Commerce Committee will hold the third in a series of several public hearings on economic development from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Thursday, March 25 at Lincoln Park Performing Arts Center, One Lincoln Park, Midland.

Commerce Committee chairman, state Rep. Peter J. Daley, D-Washington/Fayette, said the premise of this series of hearings is: Economic Development and Job Creation.

"We are enduring a historic economic recession and the effort to examine the impact of job creation is important. The Commerce Committee has been proactive in encouraging job growth and economic expansion," said Daley. "Through this series of hearings we are examining testimony from chambers of commerce, the state Department of Community and Economic Development, local economic development professionals, and local governmental entities.

"I’m pleased that Beaver County is able to host this type of hearing with the House Commerce Committee," state Rep. Jim Marshall, R-Big Beaver, said. "Legislators need to be considering any viable option that can fuel Pennsylvania’s job creators and better our economy."

Subsequent hearings will follow throughout the year in other regions of the state. The committee recently held hearings in the southwest in Somerset County and northeast in Lycoming County.

"By focusing on the specific needs of each region, we can achieve a consensus on how to craft solutions for the Commonwealth," Daley said.
