Daley to hold 'Rally in the Rotunda for Retirement'
Daley to introduce two new early retirement bills for teachers and state employees
HARRISBURG, April 4-- Rep. Peter J. Daley, D-Washington/Fayette, announced today that he will hold a rally to unveil the introduction of his two new early retirement proposals for teachers and state employees.
The rally will be held at noon Wednesday, April 18 in the Capitol Rotunda.
“I am requesting everyone who wants to know more information about these bills to please join me in this exciting announcement,” Daley said.
“Thousands of retirees in the Commonwealth have been so patient and dedicated to my prior early retirement bill which combined both retirement institutions. I think that the two new split bills have been meticulously fine tuned,” Daley said. “One will address early retirement in the Pennsylvania Public School Employees' Retirement System and the other will deal with the State Employees’ Retirement System.
“Now let’s spread the word and get this legislation passed,” he said.
Daley noted that the key elements of the revised versions would create new employment openings for our young people with no net cost to the Pension Fund system, if enacted.
In 2006, the results of a comprehensive cost-benefit analysis and policy study of early retirement proposals concluded that the Commonwealth will save overall about $217 million with an early retirement bill.
The study was the result of legislation (H.R. 299) introduced by Daley in 2005.
The approval of an early retirement bill could open as many as 10,000 teaching jobs and almost 4,000 state civil service positions.
